What Happened To Jason Gideon On Criminal Minds

So, you're wondering what happened to Jason Gideon on Criminal Minds, huh? Grab a coffee, let's spill the beans.

Exit Stage Left

Remember season 5, episode 10? "Lauren" was the name of the game, and Gideon was, well, not himself. He was all over the place, emotionally speaking. Then, bam! He up and quit the BAU. Just like that. No warning, no nothing.

But here's the thing, folks. It wasn't a sudden burst of spontaneity. No, no, no. It was a long time coming. Mandy Patinkin, the actor who played Gideon, had been hinting at his departure for a while. He's got a thing about violence against women, see? And Criminal Minds, well, it's a bit of a trigger for him. So, he bowed out, gracefully, if a bit abruptly.

Enter Stage Right

Now, you might be thinking, "But what about the guy who took over? Shemar Moore's Derek Morgan, right?" Well, yes, indeed. Morgan stepped in, and boy, did he step in with a bang. He was everything Gideon wasn't. Young, impulsive, and, let's face it, easy on the eyes. The fans loved him. But that's a story for another coffee break.

Gideon's Return

Now, here's where it gets interesting. Gideon didn't just vanish into thin air. No, he popped up again in season 10, episode 15, "Sick Day". He was back, but only for a little while. He helped the team out with a case, and then, poof! He was gone again. This time, for good.

But why the sudden reappearance? Well, it turns out, Mandy Patinkin had a change of heart. He missed the show, missed the team, missed the... ahem... "intellectual stimulation". So, he came back for an episode. But don't hold your breath for another comeback. He's retired now, and he's got a good thing going with his music. Yes, you heard it here first, folks. Gideon's got a music career!

Lessons Learned

So, what can we learn from all this? Well, for one, never say never. Gideon came back once, he could come back again. But don't count on it, folks. Mandy Patinkin's moved on, and that's okay. Criminal Minds is still going strong without him, and we've got Morgan to thank for that. But hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

And that, my friend, is the story of what happened to Jason Gideon on Criminal Minds. Now, how about a refill on that coffee?
