How Old Is Derek Morgan In Season 1

So, you're curious about Derek Morgan's age in Season 1 of Criminal Minds, huh? Let's grab a coffee and dive into this, shall we?

First things first, Derek Morgan, played by the ever-dashing Shemar Moore, is a character that's as complex as he is handsome. But you're not here for a character analysis, are you? You want numbers, and I'm here to deliver.

Now, let's set the scene. Season 1 of Criminal Minds aired back in 2005. It was a different time, my friend. The iPhone was still a twinkle in Steve Jobs' eye, and "Weird Al" Yankovic was still relevant. But I digress.

So, Derek Morgan was introduced to us as a seasoned profiler in the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. He's got that rugged charm, that mysterious past, and that intense stare that could melt icebergs. But how old is he?

Well, here's where it gets a little tricky. See, Shemar Moore was born on April 20, 1970. So, when Season 1 aired, he was a fresh-faced 35-year-old. But here's the thing, Derek Morgan was supposed to be older. The character was written to be in his late 30s, early 40s. So, even though Shemar Moore was playing a bit younger, the character was meant to be around 39 or 40.

But why the discrepancy, you ask? Well, my friend, that's showbiz for you. Casting directors have a thing for youth, and Shemar Moore was (and still is) a heartthrob. So, they cast him as the younger, more handsome version of Derek Morgan. It's a tale as old as time, my friend. Beauty over age, every time.

Now, you might be thinking, "But what about the character's backstory? His experiences, his wisdom?" Well, that's where the writers came in. They gave Derek Morgan a past that made him seem older, wiser. They threw in that mysterious ex-wife, the estranged son, the military background. All that good stuff that makes a character seem like they've lived a life.

So, even though Shemar Moore was playing a bit younger, Derek Morgan was written to be in his late 30s, early 40s. It's a bit of a trick, isn't it? Hollywood magic, if you will.

But hey, who cares about age when you've got a character as compelling as Derek Morgan? He's got that intensity, that passion, that... well, you get the picture. He's a character that's aged like fine wine, even if the actor was a bit younger when we first met him.

So, there you have it. Derek Morgan in Season 1 of Criminal Minds was written to be in his late 30s, early 40s, even though the actor was a sprightly 35. Now, go forth and impress your friends with your newfound knowledge. Just don't tell them about our little coffee chat, okay? Our secret.
